We always try to read aloud Rumer Godden's poem about St. Jerome and the lion on Sept. 30. It was published in picturebook format with lovely illustrations.
Excellent stuff. Jerome is my confirmation patron. Fascinating guy, and a source of endless hope, in that while he sometimes reads like the Angriest Man Alive, he ran the race and achieved the goal.

Appreciated the line: “some of his interlocutors hadn’t put in their work.” If anyone’s interested in the Limbourg Brothers’ cycle about Jerome and more situations drawn from the “Golden Legend,” please check out: https://vernacularbibleexplorer.substack.com/p/translators-biographical-sketch-series.

Patron saint of edgelords and angry bloggers. He gives us all hope
Yep. I wish he had had a lion, as it might have kept his monastery in Jerusalem from getting raided and burned down as it did more than once, IIRC.
Also, can’t believe Tiny Saints didn’t stick a lion on his charm. That would have been adorable.
How do we get Jerome from 'Eusebius Sophronius Hieronymus'
Hieronymus. There’s no J in Latin.
